Pets and Kids Can Co-Exist Peacefully! Here's How!

This is for those parents who had enough of their kids' and pets' mischievous acts and wish to curtail that now! Kids and pets often become a heady cocktail and are great partners in crime! They seem to understand each other well and spoil the peace of the other family members and often the people in the neighborhood. In some neighborhoods there have been reports of a full-grown 'gang' of kids and their pets who annoy the neighborhood, no end!

The above-mentioned case is the typical case of kids and pets living rather too much in harmony and friendship that threatens the living daylights out of others! However, it is not the same case everywhere. Some kids and pets fight a lot and they might even end up hurting each other. This is one area where the parents will have to step in and save both the kid and pet from harming each other. Sometimes, it can take serious proportions and can even injure any one or both so grievously that they have to be taken to the hospital.

Is there a baby at home?

All the old stories you heard about pets killing babies is certainly not true. Unless the pet you've brought is an untrained wild beast, there is no reason for you to be afraid. In fact, the pets seem to be especially careful about the baby and act as a messenger between the baby and the parents. They even help the parents in a lot other ways and they are always on their guard if they sense a potential threat to the baby. This is seen more in the case of dogs. Pets will go any extent to save the baby and keep it from coming to any harm!

Introduction is the key to making friends between your kid and the pet. It often happens so that the kid out of love hugs or handles the animal in such a way that annoys the animal and it leads to the animal hurting your kid! Most times, it is kid that annoys the animal and not vice-versa. However, kids can be pretty little jealous things too! In case they sense that you're sharing your love with the pet, they might not stand the fact! That may lead them to hate or to attack the pet. This eventually creates an unwanted rift between the two.

You must teach them both to respect each other's lives - both the pet and the kid. There have rarely been serious cases if fights between kids and animals as kids seem to love animals and play with them. Pet animals on the other hand should be taught to accept the kid's behavior as natural actions and learn to play with them. It takes time and patience but in the end, it is worth the effort put into the bonding. It is great sight to see the pet and your kid sleeping, eating or even playing together!
